HIGH SCHOOL
Steiner Stream at Benowa State High School
"We shouldn't ask, "What does a person need to know or be able to do to fit into existing social order?" Instead we should ask: "What lives in each human being and what can be developed in him or her?" Only then will it be possible to direct the qualities of each emerging generation into the society. The society will become what young people as whole human beings make of existing social conditions."
- Rudolf Steiner -
Steiner & Benowa State High School
Silkwood Steiner School is lucky enough to have established with the support of Benowa State High School a Steiner stream for year eight and nine students on their campus. The children will join with the schools current mainstream year 10, 11 & 12 programs when they reach these classes. Specialist subjects that will be offered in year 8 & 9, include woodwork, drama, art, language and music. A Class Guardian (Main Lesson teacher) will be appointed for each class, who will take responsibility for the pastoral care of students within the class.
A Specialized & Comprehensive Curriculum
In Steiner Education we recognise that the adolescent psyche lives in an argumentative phase. For this reason the High School program is designed to allow the growing adolescence plenty of time to debate, dissect apart and assimilate their topics and learning's to find their own viewpoints. New content is introduced via a main lesson block that runs for two hours every morning for a three- week period. This new content is revisited at a later date through practice sessions in the middle part of the day. Specialist subjects are inter-dispersed through practice and afternoon session and these may include music, language, art, home economics, manual arts, HPE, speech and drama.
The Silkwood Steiner School is committed to providing a quality secondary Steiner education. A comprehensive Steiner high school curriculum is provided and funded by Silkwood Steiner School to Benowa. This will be specifically prepared for the Steiner students and aligned to Queensland Government Standards by world-renowned Steiner teacher trainer and curriculum writer, Alan Wagstaff. These documents are available for inspection upon request, but will not be distributed for copyright reasons.
