Enrolment - Registration process

Open Day

Once every Term the school holds an Open Day at the school. If you want to find out more or register your child for enrolment into Silkwood please come along to our next open day. 

Registration

Registration is the beginning of our enrolment process and does not guarantee enrolment into Silkwood Steiner School . Registration enables your child's name to be entered onto the class waiting list. When a place becomes available the interview process begins.

This process involves two stages in the initial part;

1. A parent/teacher interview in which you will be asked questions about your child's history. This information is treated confidentially and is required to support the teachers to determine a clearer picture of your child. Please bring with you any past information you have on your child that you think may be helpful.

2. A child/teacher interview in which your child is taken through a series of exercises drawn from our "extra lesson program" and academic and artistic activities. All this information will help to give the teachers a picture of your child.

Following this process all this information is assembled and presented by the teacher to the school pedagogical body "The College of Teachers". This group looks at the picture of your child that the information gathered from the interview process has assembled, and meets this with their understanding of the whole class, and then the picture of the whole school. At this point, sometimes the teachers may ask to meet with you again for further information or a home visit will be arranged.

Home Visit

A home visit gives the teacher and your child an opportunity to connect in the child's space and helps the teacher understand your home environment and life. The teacher is able to offer advice to any changes they may see in the home environment that could support our educational philosophy at home. This is not offered as criticism but in support of your child's integration into the school.

Once this has been done then a decision upon your child's enrolment and acceptance into the school is made by the College of Teachers . Your child's teacher will notify you of this.

At no other time is the enrolment final and conclusive into the school.

The school endeavours to cover this process as quickly as we are able and we understand your need to have an answer as soon as possible. We endeavour to make this process as comfortable as possible.
